MT4 ECN Forex brokers

Besides MT4 ECN, some Forex brokers may also offer regular non-ECN accounts.
To avoid mistakes, spend an extra minute to compare account types and conditions on brokers websites.

Your MT4 ECN account should have such conditions as: "ECN, Market execution, variable spreads, commission rate" and should never have such keywords as "Instant execution, fixed spreads, no commission"

Hi Mike,

Demo and Live prices could differ, since there is different processes in filling orders involved: on demo - whatever trade you place, it will be filled, since your order isn't connected to the market, can't affect it, doesn't require any actions from a broker; while on live accounts it all changes and your trading becomes affected by market conditions (trading volume, market volatility, execution speed etc).

Hi guys, excellent forum!

I have an issue with VarengoldbankFX.
I have seen strange price movements and a difference between their demo ad live data feed. I suspect them highly of manipulating prices and hunting stops.
They claim to be a non-dealing desk and STP so the 'cannot' interfere. That's what they say.

What do you think? Anybody heard anything about VarengoldbankFX not being honest?

Mike

Hi Nigel,

IamFX's spreads are not high comparing to other brokers.

Being a regulated broker means quite a lot. If we look at it this way: the last thing any trader wants to hear from his broker is that the company doesn't want to honor a withdrawal request (either because there is a real dispute or because a broker "decided not to pay for whatever reason"), or, even worse, a company becomes insolvent and is not able to pay out to its clients. That's where the ability to solve disputes with the help of a supervisory authorities matters.

I don't want anyone to think that non-regulated brokers can't run transparent fair businesses. In some countries there is still no proper regulation of Forex trading, while companies continue to work. Being regulated is an advantage, without regulation - it's a broker-client relationship built on trust. Everyone chooses what works for them. Having a segregated account is good, but a broker still controls the withdrawal process.

It's not a common practice for regulators to publish investor complaints, but if we take NFA, they publish some summary info. (Take an NFA regulated broker and check its listing at: http://www.nfa.futures.org/basicnet/welcome.aspx . Look for "Regulatory Actions", "NFA Arbitration Awards" and "CFTC Reparations Cases".)

If you're trading with a FSA regulated broker in UK, you're not only protected in case of a dispute with your broker, but also your investment is additionally covered with the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS).

It's still an individual choice as to how much protection and guarantees your want to receive for your investment. Some traders, for example, would not trust money to any broker, except banks which offer Forex trading, while others would be fine with smaller brokers. The choice is yours.

Hi BG,

I have read through your blogs and would like to please ask how a regulated Broker protects its clients money and are the real benefits to traders that use regulated Brokers. While I understand it is better to have the ability to report a Brokers misconduct to a regulator, do these regulators publish reports on how Brokers have been treating their clients based on the types of complaints lodged by their trading clients. This type of information would be useful, when considering which Broker to place your hard earned money with, even some sort of rating system provided by a regulator would be very helpful.

I have been looking at IamFX, they are NOT regulated but claim to keep their clients money segregated from their own company account. They also offer a free VPS with raw spread using MT4 platform, they do charge commission of 1.2PIPS on a Micro account with a minimum deposit of $100 and a max Leverage of 400:1, do you think the commission is high compared with other regulated Brokers?

Cheers Nigel

It's an 'unlimited" slip. When you trade during major news hours, you can find prices spiking up 100 pips in few seconds and then within the next few seconds falling down 100 pips or more...

Kevin

January 8, 2011

Hello,

I trade with one company which is based in US and regulated by NFA. Is it reasonable for the stoploss slip down to 23 pips ?
I talk to their customer service and they said that it is high volatility time ( News Time release such as Non Farm Payroll ...) so the stoploss could slip to 20,30 pips or even more.
I was wondering wether there is limit for stoploss slip in the forex market or it is * unlimited * stoploss slip ?

Thanks very much for your help.

Kevin

I haven't had enough time to look closer, but Kingdom Forex appears to be an IB for Deutche bank and FXCM.
In these conditions, an ECN account starting from only $1 is very unlikely - an STP is more real.

The broker is not regulated.

Kingdom Forex (http://www.kingdomforex.com/) is the fastest growing ECN/STP forex broker among Asset Managers and Introducing Brokers. As a regulated STP/ECN they provide spreads as low as 0.3 with 99% execution for forex trading with leverage up to 500:1 and full hedging capability.

The broker is not regulated. In business since 2009.
Nevertheless, haven't got into any major troubles, so the reputation is clean.

You pay commission similar to paying spreads - it's been charged all the time regardless the results (profit or loss).

PIPs

September 10, 2010

Are there some rules or standard formula being applied or regulated for commission being charged by the ECN Forex brokers to traders? Are commission supposed to be charged at start of the trade even you loss in a trade? As I understand, commission are only charged right after you closed a winning trade. Please advise us.

Thank you so much.

ThinkForex is a very new broker, namely just registered as a company, I have no information on the quality of their trading services yet. Besides, they haven't obtained any regulation yet.

MB Trading has been around for years, has served hundreds of thousands of clients and is a properly regulated brokerage company.

So, with all the respect to ThinkForex, I still think that you have to consider not the slight variation of pip cost in between the two or the ability to trade in native currency, but the overall reliability & experience factor; namely, be sure that you will be treated fairly in trading regardless your profitability, not worrying about being able to withdraw profits at any moment, know that you can protect your rights in case of broker's misconduct by filing a complaint to a regulatory institution, knowing that your investment is protected in case of insolvency of your broker.

Pete

August 27, 2010

I have a quick question....

I am considering signing up for either MB Trading or Thinkforex.

My thinking is that the spreads for MB trading seem to be the tightest around - however with Thinkforex I can trade in my native currency - GBP. Thinkforex does not charge commission - but spread on the majors is slightly wider.

What are your thoughts/advice?

Regards

Pete
