My experience with VPS service is that they'll reboot after sometimes and without any notice and they always say "maintenance" all the applications will just close, even they reboot on weekends if you have open positions by the EA then really a problems.

You can modify the register to make it auto log on after reboot and auto start up mt4 again but there's risk of losing control of previous open positions by the EA.

Using VPS it not really worry free and you have to always monitor to make sure mt4 is running. I think this is the big disadvantages of VPS.

Running 24 hours at home mainly only worry the power supply and internet disconnect issue, if you are in a country that have a reliable power and internet service should be not a problems.

Forex.com offer free VPS hosting. I tried their service last year [2010], but at that time it would only host very simple EAs that did not have a .dll file requirement. They mentioned that the .dll file capability may be coming in the future, so perhaps an inquiry to them may be worthwhile. I did notice, however, that the execution times on their VPS were very slow.

How much bandwidth and memory would be advisable for each MT4 installation? Most VPS providers price based on these two factors.

A separate company is probably better, because when you host with a broker they can access your EA if they need to.

For now though, we list only those commercial VPS provides who offer some kind of support to traders, or at least mention VPS services for MT4 platform anywhere on their pages.

P.S. I do realise that MT4 can be set on majority of commercial VPS; it's that we don't aim to make a list all VPS providers, that's why we focus on those who specifically welcomes MT4 users.
