When spreads widen and quoted higher than advertised

During increased market volatility variable spreads will widen for all dealing desk brokers, which means a trader won't get the lowest spreads advertised by a Forex broker.

However, with ECN brokers clients will have actually lower spreads when activity in the market rises and trading volume increases - during those times variable spreads can drop to 1/10 of a pip = 0.1 pip and even be quoted at zero.
(With dealing desk brokers variable spreads never drop below the advertised point, they can only rise.)

Fixed spreads, although called "fixed", can also be a subject to change.

There are brokers who offer Fixed Guaranteed spreads - such spreads don't change no matter what.
All other brokers offer Fixed-with-Exception spreads (often marked with stars*) - these are the spreads that can change should the market become extremely volatile, for example, during important news announcements, such as Non-Farm Payroll, Unemployment Rate, Consumer Price Index, Retail Sales, Interest rates etc. During other trading hours spreads remain fixed.

Also traders should note the common practice of widening spreads during weekends, as well as for some Forex brokers - during night hours from Monday to Friday.

That is complete misinformation. thecollectivefx charges Commission as Monthly Membership and the 0 - 0.5 is bogus . They trade through FXCM

"0 - 0.5 pips no The Collective FX"

Please stop misinformation

Spreads were taken from the front page of http://www.thecollectivefx.com/. I never knew they are trading through FXCM.
With zero commission they do charge monthly membership, that's true.
Removed that misleading statement completely. Thank you.

The 0.5 pip spread of nordmarkets is for a regular standard ECN account, not institutional as you state in the "variable" section.

Thank you. I'll have a look tomorrow.
Update: fixed the listing. Thank you for the update.

The Collective FX is not accepting any more members. Is there another "for traders" group were they are ECN, NDD and STP with low spreads?

Many of the advertise spreads are not real. Some ads say 0 to .05 spread and when you open their demo you can see spread as high as 3 pips.

Thank you, Good work!

Lou

Thank you, Lou

I'm not aware of any trader groups similar to TheCollectiveFX, unfortunately.

jadefx is a 'copycat' from thecollectivefx,

but it is said that both are using an fxcm feed(just as atc), probably over an institutional fxcmpro.com account.

jadefx charges commissions. how spreads compare i do not know, maybe the EA at the collectivefx can be used to compare feeds over
a longer timeframe ( that they use an fxcm feed, still can lead to lower spreads then on fxcm
(depends on what they negotiated and volume traded) )

for the moment i just use alpari uk & fxcm and get some nice rebates from
cashbackforex.co.uk paid to my paypal account.
