Hi BrokerGuru,

I currently trade FX on IB and I like their tight spreads... is this called ECN Broker as well?
Should I be looking for ECN Brokers or should I be looking for dealing desk?
What's the difference?

Thanks

Hi,

If you trade with IB and you like the dealing conditions there, I'd say there is no need to move unless you have a better option. Interactive Brokers is an ECN dealer.

Here you can learn about different types of brokers and advantages of each broker:

Hi Brokerguru,
I forgot to mention that while I like IB, i don't like that they have a lot of "down" time for fx trading. For example NZD USD they have a 4 hr downtime everyday which i consider unacceptable. I'm looking for another ECN broker that supports MT4 instead (unfortunately IB doesn't).
Not sure who is good or has similar tight spreads.

Consider the brokers we have listed in our MT4 ECN category.
They all have different conditions, but I haven't heard of any similar problems with the downtime for NZDUSD.

You can quickly compare them by using our Broker Comparison Tool
(Soon we'll be able to compare commission rates as well.)

P.S. I can't recommend brokers (it is against the website policy to give advantage and promote any of the brokers), but we can discuss facts and collect further data about various brokers

Quickly about liquidity, quote:
"The tight spreads and substantial liquidity are a result of combining quotation streams from 13 of the world's largest foreign exchange dealers" (banks).
